India accumulates modernization of Su-30

India is currently negotiating with Russia to modernize 80 additional Su-30MKI to raise the level of the Super-30. The operation could reach $ 1 billion (source: Russia & India Report).

This concerns the modernization batch of 80 Su-30MKI * already purchased from Russia (consortium Suhkoï / Irkut). Su-30MKI aircraft are delivered to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in four steps. Under the current plan, modernization should be carried out over the next three or four years.

In total, India has 170 aircraft Su-30MKI. The IAF also plans to purchase 272 additional aircraft. An order for 230 aircraft was already passed.

This contract is therefore cumulate the contract to upgrade Super-30 Su-30MK 42 delivered to India between 1997 and 2004 amounted to 3.77 billion dollars and is likely to be signed during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi on December 24.

Modernization Super-30 provides, inter alia the installation of new radars, onboard computers, new electronic systems and BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles with a range of 300 km. It should begin in 2015 and carried out under public license by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).

The Indian Air Force (IAF) should be able to create his eighth squadron of Su-30MK in December 2012. He will be based at Sirsa in Haryana, near the border with Pakistan. It will be the third squadron of Su-30MK to be deployed near the border with Pakistan for 14 months. The last two squadrons are located at Jodhpur in Rajasthan and Punjab Halwara.


* The Su-30MKI is manufactured under license in India by HAL. It is easily distinguishable from other Su-30 variants by adding canards and thrust vectoring nozzles.
